Everyone’s skincare regime is different, and so long as we take care of the basics each day (cleanse, moisturise, protect), how much or how little is down to our individual needs.
However, certain mistakes or omissions to our skincare routine can do significantly more damage than others, so here are some of the most common mistakes we make when it comes to skincare and how we can remedy it with the help of your local skin therapy clinic.
Sun Exposure
UV damage is the most common type of skin damage we can do to ourselves, and it accumulates as we get older. Did you know that you can get sunburned on colder or even cloudy days?
It is important to get into the habit of applying suncream as part of your skincare regime. If you have already started seeing fine lines as a result of sun damage, a retinoid will help repair the damage on your skin. It is never too late to fix sun damage and prevent it from getting worse.
Forgetting To Remove Makeup
It is easily done, particularly after a tiring night out, but leaving your makeup on can lead to some unexpected issues for your skin. From breakouts due to the dirt and dead skin cells on your face to eye infections, it can be rather unpleasant for your skin the next day.
Overusing Exfoliating Products
It is possible to have too much of a good thing, and if you overuse exfoliants you can often end up with several of the same problems exfoliations was meant to fix, such as dry skin and breakouts.
Typically, unless you are using a very gentle exfoliant, you should not be exfoliating more than once or twice a week.
